Hardwood flooring options include solid and engineered

Hardwood flooring always adds a touch of sophistication to a home. This classic floor covering can be found in many of the oldest standing colonial homes in Canada. Solid hardwood flooring can be expected to last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance. It can be sanded down and refinished, if needed, to make it look like new. Braid Flooring & Window Fashions is a locally owned hardwood flooring store in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. We have been serving Saskatoon, Warman, Martinsville, Prince Albert, and Davidson for several decades. We have an abundance of products made of traditional hardwoods like birch, maple, and oak. We also offer a wide selection of exotic and innovative hardwood planks as well as other types of flooring.

Solid hardwood

Solid hardwood is available in unfinished or prefinished planks. Unfinished planks are sanded, stained, and sealed in your home. Expect installation to take about two weeks. Prefinished planks come to your home with factor-applied treatments so the floor can be installed in one day, and you can walk on the floor that same day. Your floor will have a flush look with unfinished planks and a beveled look with prefinished planks. Any type of solid wood flooring is usually nailed or glued to the subfloor. Top manufacturers like HardWood Planet, known for providing the longest board lengths in the industry, offer high-quality brands that often have warranties of 25-years or more.

Engineered hardwood

Engineered hardwood is a practical and less costly alternative to solid hardwood. Planks have a plywood, medium-density fiberboard, (MDF) or lumber core with a layer of hardwood on top. A product with a hardwood layer that is at least 2mm thick or more can be refinished at least once. Look for flooring made in random lengths to avoid a repetitive appearance. Typically, planks are connected to form a floor that floats above the subfloor. While solid hardwood is usually ¾-inch thick, engineered hardwood is generally ⅜-inch to ½-inch thick. Further, engineered flooring is water-resistant so it is appropriate for basements as well as kitchens.
